The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,
Umudike in Abia State has conducted an induction
ceremony for its first set of veterinary doctors. Speaking at
the event, Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor
Hillary Odo Edeoga, said the university attaches great
importance to the training of veterinary doctors and will
support all programmes and activities to enhance research,
training and learning. He called for increase in admission
slots.
The vice chancellor urged the doctors to use their
knowledge and skills to prevent animal diseases, improve
production, promote public health and advance veterinary
knowledge through regular participation in formal and
informal continuing education programmes. Also speaking,
Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Arunsi
Kalu, said the college was created in 2006 with 200 level
students from the College of Animal Science and Animal
Production.
