Law collapses agricultural parastatals #kenya

EIGHT parastatals have been collapsed following the
coming into effect of the Crops, Livestock and Fisheries Act.
Agriculture Secretary Felix Koskei yesterday said the Crops
Act has repealed the previous Agriculture Produce
Marketing Act, Canning Crops Act, Cereals and Sugar
Finance Corporation Act and Coconut Industry Act.
The Crops Act also repealed the Cotton Act, Pyrethrum Act,
Sisal Industry Act, Tea Act, Coffee Act and Sugar Act thereby
replacing former parastatals with directorates.
The merger of the laws has affected the Kenya Sugar Board,
Tea Board, Coffee Board, Horticultural Crops Development
Authority, Pyrethrum Board, Sisal Board, Cotton
Development Authority and the Kenya Coconut Development
Authority.
Speaking at his Kilimo office Koskei said all funds and
assets audited and kept as records will rest with the
agriculture fisheries and food authority.
He was with chief executive officers of the affected
parastatals, interim management committee and the
Agriculture Fisheries and Food Authority members.
