CARI improves seed productivity #liberia

As part of the Central Agriculture Research
Institute (CARI's) quest for surplus food
production in Liberia, another center has being
fully capped to promote food production and
ensure food security in the country.
The head of the Seed Laboratory and Storage
Unique, Ms. Nathaline Sonie Baysah who made
the disclosure last week said the lab was
constructed by GTZ in collaboration with the
Ministry of Agriculture through the Liberian
government in order to produce quality seedlings
for framers in the Country.
She said since the center was built and turned
over to CARI in 2010, lots of improvements have
been made in ensuring quality seeds production
for the farmers in the country.
According to her, the main aim of the center is to
test quality seeds before they are given to
farmers for planting, saying that good seedlings
provide the platform for a productive nation
through agriculture productivity for its citizens.
The CARI Seed Laboratory and Storage Unique
head who holds Master's Degree in Seed Science
and Technology from the Kwame Nkrumah
University of Science and Technology in Ghana
added that CARI stands the chance to providing
more viable planting materials to her farmers.
She however praised the Liberian government for
the level of hope it is giving to citizens through
the achievement of foreign studies most
especially in the field of agriculture.
Madam Baysah said her days at the University in
Ghana were challenging but vowed that the
government's decision to send her was not a
mistake, rather a dawn of a new day, most
especially at CARI.
Ms. Nathaline Sonie Baysah assured the
government and people that the knowledge
gained would be practicalized at CARI through the
provision of quality seeds as she described
herself as one of the many seed scientists in West
Africa.
The CARI laboratory head then lauded CARI's
heads for the encouragement shown to farmers
that there was serious need to improve on the
availability of qualified planting materials to the
nation.
Madam Baysah described agriculture as
important tool for the maintenance of peace,
saying no hungry group of people want to see
peace but rather a chaotic state.
