ARAB STATES SEEKING TO INVEST IN AFRICA'S AGRICULTURE

The Arab world is seeking to
increase investment in Africa's
agriculture and tourism
industries.
According to Dr Muhammad bin
Ibrahim Al-Twaijri, the Assistant
Secretary General for Economic
Affairs of the League of Arab
states, the Arab world is willing
to inject financial resources and
technical support into African
countries to boost their
agricultural and tourism sectors.
Al-Twaijri's pledge came during a
meeting of African and Arab
ministers of agriculture in
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where
Uganda was chosen to host the
Joint Conference of Africa-Arab
Ministers of Agriculture in 2015.
"This forum is the most active
interface between Arab and
African countries in furtherance
of cooperation and investment in
agricultural development and
food security. Uganda's stand as
a member of the Organization of
the Islamic Conference (OIC) and
vanguard for peace and security,
[and] also as a food basket,
scored high points in favour of
the choice made by the
ministerial conference," Dr
Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu,
Uganda's Ambassador to Saudi
Arabia, said in a statement to The
Observer.
"This will be an opportunity for
showcasing Uganda's
agricultural potential as well as
natural, social and cultural
richness that make us an
attractive destination for tourism,
trade and investment,"
