AGRICULTURE INCREASED BY 3.8%#kenya
Agriculture grew by 3.8 per cent last year to
Sh344.6 billion up from Sh331.8 billion in 2011
when the sector grew by1.9 per cent, Agriculture
Secretary Felix Koskei has said.
He said the increase in production was realised in
tea, maize, sugar cane, rice, wheat and
horticulture. Koskei said maize production
increased by 12 per cent to 41.8 million bags last
year up from 37.5 million bags the previous year.
The country's average national annual maize
requirement stands at 44 million bags. Speaking
in Bungoma during the World Food Day
celebrations, Koskei said tea and horticultural
produce were the key export crops which earned
the country Sh112 billion and Sh87 billion
respectively in 2012.
