Farmers appeal to Jigawa state Govt to clear hyper grass #nigeria

Some farmers in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa
State have urged the state government to clear the hyper-
grass on Hadejia River to encourage agricultural activity
there.
The farmers made the call in an interview with the News
Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Guri on Monday.
Malam Nuhu Isa, one of the farmers, said the call was
imperative because weeding the grass would enhance
farming activities and control flooding in the area.
Isa said the grass had ravaged greater part of the river and
blocked water channels, adding that the grass made fishing
and irrigation activities difficult.
Alhaji Dawure Bagana, Councillor for Water and Sanitation
in the council, also stressed the need for grass control
around the river. He said "the state government should
expand the grass clearing project to Dawa-Guri part of the
river."
Bagana said the devastating grass had exposed the Guri
community to flooding and other disasters.
NAN reports that the Jigawa State Government, in
collaboration with the Hadejia-Jama'are River Basin
Development Authority, had embarked on grass clearing
exercise at Auyo, Hadejia and Kirikasamma areas of the
river.
The government had also constructed embankment to
control flooding in the affected areas.
