A Sh160 million tea value addition company has been setup
in Shimanzi in Mombasa.
DL Koisagat Tea Factory will help tea farmers from the up
county in selling their produce.
The firm has imported two processing machines from China
and India .
It will process tea on a 24-hour basis.
The machines are the latest models in tea value addition,
rebranding and repackaging processes.
The company's proprietor David Langat said the firm will
produce 600 tonnes of high quality and value added tea
every month.
Speaking to the Star in Mombasa town yesterday, he said
the firm will start operations in the next two weeks and will
employ more than 50 youth .
"We are focused on supporting the tea industry and
providing employment opportunities for the youth," Langat
said.
He said the firm will buy tea from farmers in tea growing
regions and process it to high quality.
"We also want to tap on the new emerging international
markets," Langat said.
He urged farmers to start growing high quality tea because
the firm and other local companies will provide ready
market for their produce.
Langat said farmers started shifting from tea growing to
other cash crops after the tea prices went down.
He has urged other partners to come up with such ideas to
improve the tea industry.
Langat said the firm will open two other tea processing
companies in Rift Valley to market tea.
