The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development has assured of bumper harvest in the North
Central part of Nigeria due to easy access to improved farm
input by farmers in line with the Federal Government's new
agricultural policy.
The Regional Director, North Central, Federal Ministry of
Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Sunday Edibor,
disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in
Minna, Niger State capital. Apart from enlightenment and
improved farming inputs, Edibor said he was optimistic that
the Federal Government's new policy is expected to
guarantee bumper food production for greater yields during
this year's harvest in all the crops with greater yielding
propensity in the region.
"We are optimistic of a bumper harvest in the region this
2014 farming season because the federal government has
made it easy for farmers to redeem farm inputs such as;
fertilizers and improved seedlings". Edibor said the Federal
Government's collaboration with private investors had made
access to input more easy and affordable, adding that "The
introduction of the private partners to enable farmers get
their inputs was a huge success, though we will continue to
improve on it". The inauguration of the largest rice mill by
President Goodluck Jonathan, the North Central regional
director pointed out would increase export of rice and other
commodities that have highest potency for better yield in
the area. According to him, "The Olam Integrated Rice Mill
in Doma in Nasarawa State will definitely lead to not only
the increased economy but their living conditions of the
people and as well, encourage local and foreign exports.
"More of such laudable industries to promote local farm
produce are required in the economy by dedicated leaders
to move the nation's economy to enviable heights", the
regional director explained.
