Honey harvesters from the Boni community in Lamu East
have criticised the Lamu curfew, saying it inhibits their main
source of livelihood. Elder Ali Abdi on Thursday told the
Star the ongoing security operation in the county hinders
them from harvesting honey.
He said they now do not have adequate food. The
community mostly depends on hunting and gathering,
honey harvesting in forests and farming. Since the curfew
was imposed, they have been unable to venture into the
forest to hunt, gather and harvest honey.
