Farmers in protest over strict rules #kenya
FARMERS in Lugari subcounty are complaining of new requirements introduced by the government to allow them access subsidised fertiliser through the NCPB depots. Led by Joseph Sande, the farmers said they have nothing to celebrate as the new requirements have increased the prices of farm inputs.
"We have to get three forms at Sh 45 and take them to the chief for signing. We are then required to take them to the local agricultural office before being allowed to proceed to NCPB depot," Sande said.
He said one is required to travel to Webuye to make payments before returning to the depot to receive his share and eventually surrender the receipt to the bank for reconciliation. Sande said the government should make the procedure easier to allow poor farmers access fertiliser easily.
