Farmers decry Long drought #kenya

COCONUT farmers in Lamu East district have blamed the decline in production to drought. The farmers from Shanga sublocation said coconut growing is no longer productive due to lack of reliable rains. "Coconut farming has been doing so well here at Shanga several years ago. This long term drought has really affected the crop. In my five pieces of land, I would initially harvest more than 40,000 fruits but since the onset of the drought, even a 5000 fruits harvest from all the five plots of land is impossible," said Nassir Athman, a coconut farmer. The farmers were speaking to the Star in Shanga village yesterday
