USAID to launch over $20m to aid agro investment in Northern Ghana

The US government is set to launch a $22 million financing programme to unlock investment for agriculture in northern Ghana. To be launched January 21, 2014, the USAID Financing Ghanaian Agriculture Project (USAID-FinGAP) aims to unlock significant investment for agribusinesses in rice, soy and maize value chains in northern Ghana. According to a press invitation, the project will be launched in Accra by Ghana’s Agric Minister Clement Kofi Humado and the USAID Mission Director, Mr. Jim Bever. The USAID-FinGAP is a five-year project with the goal of increasing access to finance and investment in the rice, maize and soy sectors in the northern part of the country. Officials say the USAID-FinGAP will provide technical assistance and incentives to unlock significant financing for agribusiness through partnerships with strategic investors. The USAID indicated that the project will also help improve ancillary services so that agribusiness firms can operate at full capacity and expand levels of food security in the country.
