Improvement of agric practices#eritrea


The Agriculture Ministry's branch in Anseba
region indicated that it would exert more efforts
regarding soil and water conservation, crop
rotation and pest control with a view to raising
agricultural output.
It made the disclosure at an assessment meeting,
during which the reports presented highlighted
that a number of micro-dams, ponds, catchment
walls and terraces have been constructed in a bid
to enrich underground water capacity.
Accordingly, an experimental banana plantation in
Habero has reached the stage of ripening, while
new tropical trees planted in Elabered
Agroindustry are in good condition. Moreover,
bovine breeding activities seeking better dairy
output have become promising, and more efforts
are being made to raise feed supply for the dairy
cattle in Elabered Agroindustry, besides the
rendering of adequate veterinary service.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Arefaine Berhe,
Minister of Agriculture, said that gratifying
achievements have been registered in the region
as regards to raising agricultural production, and
called for resort to shortly harvested varieties of
crops, in addition to enhanced apicultural
activities. He also disclosed that the Ministry is
working on preservation of local poultry species
and importing chicks from abroad.
Mr. Gergis Girmai, Administrator of the region,
stated on his part that the Administartion has
been stepping up collaboration in agricultural
activities. There is a plan to plant more than 1
million tree seedlings in 2014, and stepped-up
endeavors would be put up towards ensuring
animal feed pursuing research guideline
