Tanzania's agric council gets new chairman


THE Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Agricultural
Council of Tanzania (ACT) has elected Dr Sinare
Yusuf Sinare as new Board Chairman of the
Board of Directors replacing Mr Salum Shamte
whose tenure has expired.
According to a press statement issued by ACT in
Dar es Salaam, Prof Andrew Temu and Dr Salum
Diwani were also elected vice-chairman and
Treasurer, respectively.
The meeting also elected Mr Salum Shamte, Ms
Helen Usiri, Ms Jacqueline Mkundi, Mr Willigis
Mbogoro, Mr Felix Mosha, Mr Jitu Son (MP), Mr
Sebastian Sambuo and Mr Abdul Mwilima as
members of the Board.
Ms Janet Bitegeko who is the Executive Director of
the Council will be the secretary of the board, the
statement said, adding that all members of the
council have expressed their optimism on the
new board.
The statement further said that the AGM was
preceded by the stakeholders' meeting of
agriculture sector. "The council's main task is to
convince and protect interests on all matters
pertaining to the sector," the statement explained.
