108m naira rice for xmas #nigeria


Kaduna — Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of
Kaduna state yesterday flagged off the distribution
of 69,000 bags of rice packed in special bags
which cost was N108 million
This was made known at the official flag-off of
distribution of rice made for the less privileged
from the 23 local government areas of the state
for the Christmas celebrations to be shared in a
ratio 70:30 for Christians and Muslims
respectfully.
Speaking at the occasion, Yero said: "As we
approach another festive period, it is expected
that all well meaning individuals and organizations
will render some kind of assistance to the less
privilege in our communities. Such kind gesture
behoves on all of us as provided by both our
value system and divine culture.
"It is imperative in discharging our responsibilities
to ensure that every family at least has sufficient
food items to also make merriment and rejoice
especially during the coming Xmas and New Year
celebrations.
"My administration has already initiated various
programmes and policies which are deliberately
targeted at poverty reduction and job creation to
our teaming unemployed youth and women.
"You are all aware of the ongoing skill acquisition
training programme which has provided hope
for 7,600 youths and women to regain liberation
from shackles of unemployment and poverty
under the SURE-P programme. The beneficiaries
are receiving training in various trades including
fashion design, hair making, vulcanizing, welding,
plumbing, fishery, farming etc.
In his remark, Commissioner for Special Duties
(Poverty Alleviation), Kaduna State, Hon.
Abdulrahm Ibraham Jere said the Kaduna State
Government purchase 69,000 customized bags
of rice which cost the State Government a
whopping N108million at N1,400 each per bag
and it would be distributed to the 23 Local
Government Areas of the state.
According to the Commissioner, "Already the
cost of transporting the bags of rice to the 23 local
government areas and even unto the various
wards have been paid for by the government",
Hon Jere said.
Hon. Jere further said that these 69,000 bags of
customized rice would be distributed 30:70%
ratio as it was done during the last Ramadan
fasting period to all the beneficiaries
