STATE OF EMERGENCY ANNOUNCED IN GIZA, EGYPT


Irrigation and Water Resources
Minister Mohamed Abdel Motleb
announced a state of emergency
in Giza governorate after the
collapse of a chunk of the right
levee of Al Saf canal, causing
torrents of water to gush
towards neighboring lands and
some nearby homes, according
to a ministry's statement on
Tuesday 15/10/2013.
The minister gave orders to all
engineers and technicians to be
available all through Eid vacation
at the leakage site to make
necessary restoration of the
collapsed bank and discharge
water leaks to the nearest
spillway to protect lands and
homes in the area. The minister
also ordered lowering water level
in the canal to mitigate leaks
