RWANDA MOVES UP TWO PLACES IN FIFA RANKINGS
Despite not playing any
competitive matches this month,
Rwanda moved two places up to
129th in the latest world
rankings released by the
Federation of International
Football Association (Fifa) on
Thursday.
Amavubi's last competitive match
was against Benin away in Porto
Novo where the country lost 2-0
to finish bottom of Group H with
two points in the 2014 World
Cup qualifiers.
While improving to 129th in the
world, Rwanda also moved one
place to 37th position in Africa.
Neighbours Uganda have
dropped four places to 85th spot
after their two losses to
Pharaohs of Egypt in Fifa
international matches played in
Cairo last month. Nonetheless,
Uganda remains the best placed
East African country.
After losing 2-1 to Nigeria in the
first leg of the World Cup play-
offs last week in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia dropped two places to
95th position in the world and
25th in Africa.
Kenya remained in 118th
position in the world and 32nd
in Africa. Burundi moved three
places to 121 while Tanzania
dropped two positions to 129th,
seven places better than Sudan.
Ivory Coast remained the best
placed African country,
improving two places to 17th,
while Ghana are the second best
placed and remain ranked on
23th. Algeria completes the top
three African countries despite
dropping four places to 32nd.
In the top ten, only Spain's
position at the summit remained
unchanged, while Germany have
pushed Argentina out of second
place.
New entries into the top ten
include; Switzerland (7th, up 7)
and England (10th, up 7), both
thanks to their recent strong
performances in the final group
games in the World Cup
qualifying.
Italy, meanwhile, have paid
heavily for their draw against
Armenia, dropping four places to
eighth.
