Psychiatric hospital lacks funds #zanzibar

Zanzibar
HEALTH authorities are blaming the prevailing lack
of funds on the shortage of food and medicines
at the psychiatric hospital in Zanzibar.
"It is a fact that we lack funds, but no patient in
the Hospital will die of hunger. At least the
patients are sure of having light breakfast and
light dinner. When money is available they eat
well," said Dr Sira Ubwa Mamboya in the House
of Representatives.
Sira, the Deputy Minister for Health, was
responding to questions from backbenchers who
expressed their concern in connection with poor
services including insufficient food at the
psychiatric hospital.
Mr Hija Hassan Hija (CUF - Kiwani) and Mr Saleh
Nassor Juma (CUF - Wawi) and Mr Jaku Hashim
Ayoub (CCM - Muyuni),complained that patients
in the hospital have been living in difficult
condition.
The legislators said that the Ministry of Health is
not providing any food for the patients at any
time and that light breakfast and dinner are a
donation from private people.
But the Minister for Health, Mr Juma Duni Haji,
said "the government has failed to feed patients at
the mental hospital. Any donation is voluntary
and it does not mean the government has failed."
