OGUN BROADCASTING CORPORATION VENTURES INTO AGICULTURE

Oct. 7, 2013 (NAN) The General Manager of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Mr Tunde Awolana, on Monday in Abeokuta said the corporation would diversify into cassava production to generate more revenue.
Awolana said this while receiving members of the Ogun House of Assembly Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism who were on oversight visit.
He said the corporation had about 25 acres of land at Ijebu-Itele in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state.
``We have been making suggestions to government that we can diversify and go into cassava plantation, so that our Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR) can improve.
``We already have a building we want to turn into cassava processing factory, where we can extract starch and do some Garri and repackage them in a very attractive way.
``So, we are talking of a cassava revolution and talking with some packaging companies that can do the business with us," Awolana said.
The general manager solicited the support of the lawmakers in terms of fund allocation.
Responding, the committee chairman, Mr Olayiwola Ojodu, assured that the House of Assembly would support the broadcasting corporation to ensure that its situation improved.
Ojodu said the purpose of the tour was to enable the committee ascertain the extent of progress made so far by the corporation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee visited other ministries, departments and agencies.
These include the Ogun Signage and Advertisement Agency, Ogun State Television and Ogun State Printing Corporation.(NAN)
