very year, thousands of people
take part in HUNGER RUN events
around the world.
Typically consisting of a 10K
competitive race and a 5K non-
competitive walk / run, HUNGER
RUN events have three main
objectives:
build connections between
local communities and the
United Nations food agencies
focus public attention on the
fact that hundreds of millions
of people around the world
still live in chronic hunger
raise funds to help hunger-
affected communities meet
their own food needs over the
long term.
The 10K race is usually reserved
for professional athletes, while
the 5K non-competitive walk /
run is open to everyone – young
people, adults, even entire
families.
The Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United
Nations (FAO), the International
Fund for Agricultural
Development (IFAD), the World
Food Programme (WFP) and
Bioversity International
organized the 7th edition of
HUNGER RUN (formerly called
“Run for Food”) in Rome in
October 2012, together with
technical partners Gruppo
Sportivo Bancari Romani and
sponsors.
Similar events took place in Cuba,
Guinea, Honduras, Lesotho,
Madagascar, Mongolia, Nigeria
and Trinidad and Tobago.
