govt ignites plan to end drought# ethiopia


A five-year disaster resilience and sustainability
project was launched in Ethiopia to end draught
emergencies in Afar and Somali States, the
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
has said.
The State Minister, GebreEgzabher
Gebreyohannes said the project will be
implemented in 15 woredas in Afar and Somali
states with an outlay of 48 million Birr.
He said the initiative will help the activities being
undertaken by the government in pastoralist
areas to end drought emergencies.
The African Development Bank (AfDB) funded the
project, which is part of the regional platform
being implemented in IGAD member states.
The IGAD Regional Platform is aimed to end
drought emergencies in the Horn of Africa and to
never again allow droughts to deteriorate into
famine.
