The Meru county conservation and forestry
department intends to plant at least 1.5 million
trees this coming rainy season, ounty
conservator Evans Maneno has said.
Speaking to the media in his office, Maneno said
the county government has prepared 430
hactares for tree planting and wants to have
attained at least 750 hactares by the onset of the
rains.
He said they are working in collaboration with the
community whereby in the state forest, they are
rehabilitating an area of 250 hactares which has
been invaded by lantana camara and in other
areas pitting is going on.
"For the new areas that will be under the
Plantations Establishments and livelihood
improvement scheme, the land is being ploughed
where last year we achieved 670 hactares for
rehabilitation and this year we expect to
rehabilitate 100 hacatres", said Maneno.
