Skills Acquisition Centres on Tuesday said it had
trained 80,000 farmers on modern agriculture
The Deputy Managing Director of Adamawa
Agricultural Development and Investment Ltd.,
Malam Bello Abba, made this known when he
conducted consultants from Royale Criterion
Consults round Yola South Local Government.
Abba said the centres, established in the 21 Local
Government areas, provide skill training to
farmers in grain crops, aqua culture, poultry,
vegetables, fodder crops, tree crops, large and
small ruminants.
He said the centres had transformed agriculture in
the state through tremendous increase in farmers
yield per hectare.
``Similar increase have been recorded in
livestock, poultry, bee keeping and fish farming,’’
Abba said.
He said only 20 per cent of the arable lands in the
state were being utilised, adding that the centre
was established to ensure food security and
grassroots empowerment.
Abba said Adamawa had a population of 3.6
million and 450,000 families of which, 360, 000
families were dependent on agriculture.
In his remarks, the team leaders of the
consultants, Prof. Abba Gambo, commended the
state government for transforming agriculture in
the state.
Gambo said they were in the state to assess
achievements in area of agriculture and would
compile a comprehensive report on the journey
so far.
